If you are looking to save on money, wire shelving will cost less that wooden garage shelves or metal shelving units. While the wire shelves can hold a good deal of weight, they are not going to be able to support as much of a load as wood or metal, which can hold in the neighborhood up to 250 pounds. Placing too much weight on them could cause the screws and brackets to be torn out from the walls leaving you will a mess to clean up.
